Fuchsia

A large-leaved shrub that grows to about 1m tall in a single season. The pendulous flowers are about 8cm long, white on the outside and lipstick-pink on the interior.

In the wild, on the slopes of the Andes, this shrub reaches 3m tall. Overwintered in a cool greenhouse in Britain it rarely reaches more than 1m. The flowers are dark red with green tips to the buds that turn white as the flower opens.
