Euphorbia

Very neat, compact form.

Tall reddish stems of narrow leaves which have a white central vein and heads of golden-yellow flowers in spring. 60cm

A decade ago this plant was all the rage but its popularity has dimmed. Seeing it abandoned in the stock bed, we remembered what a great plant it is and so are growing it again. The burgundy and dusky-pink foliage and lax habit make it a very relaxed spring-time plant. 25cm.

Strong, thick red stems that brighten and glow in the autumn. During the spring the plant is topped with orange flowers. Height 80cm.

Luminous green leaves with honey-scented, dark honey-coloured bracts during the summer. Best in a sheltered spot where it will grow to about 1.5m tall. The Chelsea Physic Garden has a magnificent specimen, about 2.5m tall.

Blue-grey leaves whirl around the trailing stems. It needs to be planted in a raised bed or somewhere similar, so that it can trail around without getting wet.

A hybrid between E. characias and E. amygdaloides that was found in 1900 in the Pyrenees, near the town of Prades. Red stems and dark green leaves. 75cm
